Shri Jayant Sinha is an officer of the Indian Audit & Accounts Service (IA&AS) from the 1990 batch, currently serving as the Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (Government Accounts) & Chairperson GASAB in the Office of the CAG. With a foundation in economics, Shri Sinha has over 30 years of experience across various critical roles within the Government of India and the organization of the C&AG. Shri Jayant Sinha is a professional who combines administrative acumen with financial expertise and his career exemplifies a strong dedication to public service, transparency & accountability; essentials in effective governance.

Prior to his current role, Shri Sinha served as the Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser to three Ministries Planning. Information & Broadcasting, and Statistics & Programme Implementation from August 2021 to January 2024. In these capacities, he provided strategic financial oversight, ensuring that the Ministries' financial management aligned with national goals.

Shri Sinha's earlier roles include his tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence (May 2016 July 2019). He also played a significant role as Joint Secretary in the 7th Central Pay Commission (April 2014 December 2015), which made far reaching recommendations on pay structure for almost 5 million serving personnel in the Central Government and for central government pensioners.

He was deeply involved in budget formulation during his tenure as Deputy Secretary (Budget) in the Ministry of Finance (February 2000-October 2004), where he gained insights on public financial management & fiscal policy issues.

Within the organization of C&AG, Shri Sinha has held several key positions, including Principal Accountant General (Audit) of Uttar Pradesh (July 2019-July 2021), where he led comprehensive audits in India's largest state. He has also served as Accountant General (Accounts) of Jharkhand and Principal Director of Audit at the High Commission of India in London.

Shri Sinha's international audit experience includes those with numerous international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and International Maritime Organization (IMO).

A significant aspect of Shri Sinha's career has been his contribution to assisting Parliamentary Committees such as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU) both at the Centre and in the States. His work with these committees assisted in strengthening legislative oversight on public spending and provided insights on broader issues of public accountability and governance.
